Tryout Seen as Valuable Hiring Tool

September 19, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Hiring managers participating in a recent survey say they get the most comprehensive look at a job candidate by bringing the person in for a tryout.

An Accountemps news release said some 38% like the tryout option because it gave them the most information about judging the available candidates for a financial position.

Some 17% said a reference check was the a key recruiting tool while 6% said an ordinary resume and cover letter did the trick for them.

“In today’s economic environment, employers are taking extra measures to minimize the risk of making bad hiring decisions,” said Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps. “Temporary and project assignments provide the opportunity for companies to observe firsthand an individual’s skills, performance and fit for the position before extending a full-time offer.”
