US and Canadian Markets Closed

September 12, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and the American Stock Exchange will remain closed today in the wake of the disaster at the World Trade Center.

The Chicago, Philadelphia, and Pacific stock exchanges will also remain closed, as will Canada’s Toronto Stock Exchange and Canadian Venture Exchange.

As yet, no announcement has been made as to when trading will resume, although one concerning US markets is expected later today, while the Canadian exchanges are expected to make similar announcements tomorrow.

The World Trade Center was located a few blocks from the stock exchange in New York’s financial district, from where many financial services firms operated.
