US Firms Blame Management Issues for Productivity Problems
July 20, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A new
international study by Proudfoot Consulting reported that
half of US executives who answered the survey said the No. 1
barrier to productivity is inefficient management planning of
work and organization structure.
Reported by Rebecca Moore
According to Proudfoot’s press release on the study, 43% of US executives surveyed ranked poor leadership in terms of management demonstrating and leading change as the second greatest barrier to productivity.
Additional findings of the study, based on executives’ responses, also found:
- 28.8% of company time in 2005 in America is unproductive, down from 37.2% in 2004,
- The estimated cost of poor productivity in the US is $598 billion,
- US companies “lose” the equivalent of 33.5 days per worker per year,
- More than one quarter of US executives have no productivity improvement target.
The Conference Board’s Management Excellence Program conducted the productivity and workforce efficiency survey for Proudfoot, and more than 800 executives in 19 countries responded.
