Vanguard Unveils Four VIPER Offerings

September 28, 2004 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Vanguard Group is scheduled to launch exchange traded class of shares for four sector index funds on Wednesday.

The suburban Philadelphia mutual fund company said the new offerings would start trading on the American Stock Exchange Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. The new VIPER offerings with their indices and expense ratios are as follows:

  • Vanguard REIT VIPERs (Morgan Stanley REIT Index),  0.18%
  • Vanguard Energy VIPERs (MSCI US Investable Market Energy Index),  0.28%
  • Vanguard Industrials VIPERs (MSCI US Investable Market Industrials Index),  0.28%
  • Vanguard Telecommunication Services (MSCI US Investable Market Telecommunication Services Index), 0.28%

With the additions, Vanguard will offer a total of 20 VIPERs with 11 tracking specific sectors and nine tracking more diversified market segments, the company said. Vanguard’s VIPER shares are structured as a separate share class of existing Vanguard funds.
