Walmart to Help Associates Get College Degrees
June 3, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Employees at retail giant Walmart can get up to 45% of the credit required for a college degree based on their experience with the company as part of a new employee benefit.
Reported by Fred Schneyer
The company announced the new program with American Public University (APU), which offers online degrees in seven subject areas.
“The partnership will put associates on a faster track to earning a college degree, reduce their length of time in school and make the overall cost more affordable,” Walmart said in a news release.
According to the company, other program details include:
- Every Walmart and Sam’s Club associate who enrolls will receive a grant from American Public University equal to a 15% tuition reduction.
- Walmart will invest $50 million over the next three years to provide tuition assistance and other tools to help associates prepare for college-level work and complete their degrees.
