Wanna Bet on Global Warming?

April 16, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Think global warming will raise the oceans enough to submerge Cape Hatteras? Want to bet on it?

An online gambling service has started taking bets on global warming, according to the Associated Press, including whether it can submerge places like:

  • Virginia‘s Cape Henry (there are 200-to-1 odds that it will be under water by 2015),
  • North Carolina‘s Cape Hatteras (300-1 odds by the same date)
  • Florida‘s Cape Canaveral

There are even takers for the prospects of Manhattan being under water before New Year’s Eve 2011 – or the state of Florida by the same date.   Or whether Antarctica will become livable for humans by 2015 (“livable” in this case defined as the continent being able to sustain crops) .

For those with a more mundane interest in the topic, there are betting lines for when (if?) a sequel to “An Inconvenient Truth” will be released – and if IT will win an Academy Award (prior to 12/31/07).
