WI Committee Rejects Domestic Partner Benefits

June 8, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A budget committee in Wisconsin shot down efforts by Governor Jim Doyle to extend state benefits to domestic partners of employees.

The Pierce County Herald reports that Doyle included language in his budget to allow the state to offer benefits to domestic partners of state employees, but the committee voted it down.

Doyle was pushing for the regulation in hopes to nullify a lawsuit between the state and state employees (See WI Supreme Court to Consider Municipality Intervention in Domestic Partner Benefits Case ).

In December, the Attorney General of Wisconsin ruled the state’s ban on same-sex marriage does not mean employers must stop providing domestic partner benefits to employees (See WI Ban on Gay Marriage Does not Stop Partner Benefits ).
