Wyoming Pension System Names First CIO

March 18, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Wyoming Retirement System (WRS) has named Trent May as the first WRS chief investment officer (CIO).

A WRS news release said May has run his own Littleton, Colorado, firm, Deer Creek Capital Partners, since 2002. The firm focused on technology, biotechnology, telecommunications and consumer cyclical industries, the announcement said.

“Trent has extraordinary analytic skills and will undoubtedly help us optimize our portfolio’s performance,” said Thom Williams, WRS’ executive director, in the news release. “His insightful views as to market trends and opportunities are informed both from his keen eye on the future and his ‘market historian’s’ knowledge of the past.”

According to the announcement, May began his career at SunBank Capital Management in Orlando as an assistant research analyst.

May attended Colorado State University and graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. He earned his MBA in Finance from the Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, in 1992.
