Aetna Members Can Visit Dr. Virtually at Work

October 13, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Some Aetna members can now check their blood pressure and receive care for minor health issues at work with the new freestanding, individually operated health stations from Computerized Screening, Inc. (CSI).

Available for lease by self-insured employers through arrangements made available by Aetna, the CSI workplace health stations offer a number of services. Aetna members can:

  • Initiate a basic medical self-assessment and receive a personalized report based on their biometric readings: weight, temperature, blood oxygen level, and blood pressure;
  • Print out a copy of results so they can share them with their providers or update their personal health records;
  • Access personalized care through a live, on-demand voice or video consultation with a state-licensed, board-certified doctor when this feature is selected by the member’s employer; and
  • Access health and wellness tools such as medical encyclopedia, health topics & videos, and Rx database.

“The health station is a benefit that can help employees manage today’s busy lifestyles and help employers promote employee health and productivity, while reducing health care costs,” said Jay Eisenstock, Head of Aetna’s Provider eSolutions, in a press release.

The workplace health stations can assist members with a number of minor physical health concerns as well, including:

  • Allergies,
  • Asthma,
  • Cold and flu symptoms,
  • Pink eye,
  • Rashes, and
  • Sinus infections.

To connect virtually with a doctor, a member must first register as a new user or sign-in at the health station, establish or update their personal health record, complete the baseline biometric readings, and answer a few questions related to his or her current condition. All data exchanges are SSL encrypted, as required by HIPAA. No data is stored on the health station.

The cost of a video consultation is $35 or lower, depending on the member’s specific Aetna benefit plan. Copays, deductibles and coinsurance apply. Workplace health station consultations are a qualified expense for health care flexible spending account (FSA), health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), or health savings account (HSA) fund products.

The CSI workplace health station offering is not available to Medicare Advantage or Medicaid (Aetna Better Health) benefits plans.
