Are Parents Granted Leniency at Work?

April 19, 2001 - (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Working parents appear to be granted more leniency regarding their working conditions compared to those without children, according to a new survey by Hrnext.

Of those surveyed:

  • two-thirds said that working parents get away with more at work than non-parent workers
  • just under 30% felt that everyone received the same treatment,
  • while only 4% said they felt working parents get away with less

While HR professionals cannot agree whether working parents are given more flexibility in the workplace or if leeway is given on the basis of job performance and work ethic, a recent study by the Employment Policy Foundation found that parents enjoy lower levels of unemployment, earn higher salaries, and work more hours than those without children.
