Behavioral Health Enrollment Up 2%

November 1, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Enrollment in managed behavioral health and employee assistance programs (EAP) has grown by 2% since 2001.

The 2% increase continues the rise from previous years.   In fact, from 1993 to 2002 enrollment has increased 163%, from 86.3 million to 227 million, according to the consulting firm Open Minds.

Additionally, the study found 66% of all Americans in some type of managed behavioral health program, excluding individuals with behavioral health coverage through a HMO that does not use a specific plan.

The behavioral health market remains rather concentrated, with 30% of the market with Magellan Behavioral Health, and another 50% with Value Options and United Behavioral Health.
