Biggest Employee Goal for 2008: Take Off the Pounds

February 25, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The biggest goal for employees in 2008 - at least at client companies of employee assistance program provider ComPsych Corporation - is to shed some pounds.

A ComPsych news release said its survey, which ran fromJanuary 1 to February 10, 2008, and drew responses from more than 1,000 ComPsych client companies, asked respondents whether they had vowed to lose weight in the new year and what would give them the biggest boost to reaching that goal.

The announcement reported that:

  • 41% admitted a personal trainer/nutritionist would help,
  • 21% said an employer-provided wellness program would be an aid,
  • 11% mentioned an outside weight-loss program such as Weight Watchers,
  • 5% said books or videos on diet/exercise, and
  • 22% said they don’t have a weight loss goal.

“Employees are seeking guidance and direction in losing weight – whether it’s through a trainer or a wellness program,” said Richard A. Chaifetz, chairman and CEO of ComPsych, in the announcement. “That expertise and personal touch is what keeps individuals accountable and motivated to successfully lose the pounds. Employers must take this into account when considering or developing a wellness plan.”
