CalPERS Steps up Education Efforts

May 16, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Members of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) now have access to a new information source about financial planning for retirement.

The giant public employee pension plan unveiled an Online Financial Planning Center developed by American General Financial Advisors (AGFA), for the CalPERS Web site.

According to a CalPERS press release announcing the new offering, the center provides its members with planning tools, education, and personal counseling.

The services include:

  • five core financial planning courses on cash management, risk management, investment securities, investment strategies and retirement planning,
  • five reports on estate planning, insurance planning, retirement planning, saving for education and a financial overview,
  • customizable reports that can be tailored with personalized data into a secure site and instantly analyzed so members can have a blueprint for financial success, and
  • access to a counseling session with an AGFA financial advisor.

Wider Educational Event

CalPERS is launching the Online Financial Planning Center in conjunction with the CalPERS Retirement Planning Month, “Building a Better Bridge for Tomorrow.”

As part of the awareness campaign, CalPERS has developed a retirement planning kit for members currently employed and retired members that contain the tools needed to plan and maintain a secure retirement.

CalPERS is the nation’s largest public pension fund, with assets totaling more than $150 billion and provides retirement and health benefits to more than 1.3 million state and local public employees and their families.
