Caltech Endowment Gets $600 Million Gift

October 29, 2001 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - One of the founders of chipmaker Intel Corp will donate $600 million to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) over the next 10 years - the largest endowment gift ever made to a single American school.

Gordon Moore’s donation amounts to half the size of Caltech’s current $1.2-billion endowment. It will help the school remain competitive with other major research universities who have significantly larger endowments.

Moore’s donation beats the record $400 million that a foundation started by William Hewlett, co-founder of Hewlett-Packard Co.,  pledged to Stanford University earlier this year.
