CBIZ Unveils Small Business Employment Index

August 10, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - CBIZ Payroll Services has unveiled its CBIZ Small Business Employment Index, a monthly analysis to gauge the staffing trends within America's small to middle market employers.

The July data shows that more companies are cutting staff. Twenty-four percent of the companies managed by CBIZ Payroll Services slashed their headcount during the month of July, compared to 21% of companies doing so in June.  However, fewer companies cut payroll than last July, according to a press release.

Of the 2,917 businesses covered by CBIZ Payroll Services, 26.2% added payroll and 49.8% maintained their headcount.  July 2009 data showed that 24.6% of companies added staff, while 48.2% maintained headcount.

Philip Noftsinger, Business Unit President for CBIZ Payroll Services pointed out that the employment data for the sub-300 employee set gives a strong indicator for how America’s entrepreneurs see their immediate business prospects, according to the announcement.

The CBIZ Payroll Services sample reflects an array of industries and geographies corresponding to the markets across the United States where CBIZ provides services.
