CFOs to Candidates: Play Well with Others

July 29, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Half of chief financial officers (CFOs) surveyed said the most important communications skill for accounting and finance professionals is relating well to their colleagues.

According to a news release, a new Accountemps survey of 1,400 CFOs conducted by telephone with firms employing 20 or more people also found CFOs are looking for candidates with strong:

  • Presentation/public speaking ability: 17%,
  • Negotiation skills: 16%, and  
  • Writing ability: 12%.

“Strong interpersonal skills are a key factor for success in any profession,” said Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International, in the news release. “Businesses seek accountants who have the requisite technical skills but who also can build rapport with colleagues, resolve conflicts and develop consensus among team members.”
