Executives Suggest Thank You Notes After Job Interviews
August 9, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Nearly nine out
of 10 of executives (88%) say sending a thank-you note after
an interview can better a job seeker's chances of landing the
position, but about half of applicants don't sent the note, a
recent survey found.

The survey of about 150 senior executives by staffing company Accountemps found a slight increase this year in the percentage of executives who said a thank-you note carried some hiring influence. Eighty-six percent said it had some influence over hiring in 2002.
Also, employees are more inclined to write them than they were in 2002. Executives polled said half (51%) of the candidates they interview send thank-you notes afterward, compared with 39% five years ago.
According to the survey, executives’ most preferred ways to receive thank you notes are as follows:
- Handwritten note, 52%
- E-mail, 44%
- Prefer to receive both, 3% and
- Don’t know, 1%.
