Former Kash n' Karry Assistant Manager Accused of Abuse

September 23, 2005 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Seven separate lawsuits have been filed against a former Kash n' Karry assistant manager and the supermarket chain, accusing the man of hitting a woman and kicking another.

According to the St. Petersburg (FL) Times, another of the seven women says Daniel Russell pulled her hair, shoved her in a storage room and bolted the door, shoved a Coke machine in front of the door, and left her to scream for help. Others complained of vulgar, demeaning, and threatening comments from Russell.

The suits say that the seven women who worked at the New Port Richey store complained to their supervisors and then to human resources at the corporate headquarters in Tampa. The Times reports that several left the company after their encounters with Russell, according to the lawsuits.

Russell declined to comment on the cases, but Kash n’ Karry’s vice president of marketing Steven Smith said the claims had been previously investigated by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and were found to be groundless. He also said Russell had been fired in September 2004, the Times reports.
