If You're Watching What You Eat…

April 7, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR (b)lines) - If you're watching what you eat, here's something that may help you put that chocolate bar down, a Web site listing fun/odd facts says the average chocolate bar has 8 insect legs in it.

You should also put down the cream cheese for your bagel in the morning. It’s the most fattening cheese, as 90% of its calories come from fat.

It seems, however, that Americans will do just about anything to get their chocolate fix – 71% of office workers stopped on the street for a survey agreed to give up their computer passwords in exchange for a chocolate bar. And, ever since Austin High School in Texas removed candy from its vending machines, some enterprising students are earning $200 per week dealing in black market candy.

At least we’re not as bad as the ribbon worm. Some ribbon worms will eat themselves if they can’t find any food.

Aside from the hidden dangers in chocolate, the Web site also points out that a pound of lemons contains more sugar than a pound of strawberries. And, be careful of “hidden” calories; every time you lick a stamp, you consume 1/10 of a calorie.   By the way, the glue on Israeli postage stamps is certified kosher.

Those who are exercising in addition to watching their diet should know that fidgeting can burn about 350 calories a day. Also, you can adjust your treadmill settings or walking routine based on this fact: When you walk uphill, the level of harmful fats in the bloodstream goes down, and when you walk downhill, blood sugar levels are reduced.

More interesting diet facts include:

  • During your lifetime, you’ll eat about 60,000 pounds of food. That’s the weight of about 6 elephants.
  • The average American drinks about 600 sodas a year.
  • You’ll eat about 35,000 cookies in your lifetime.
  • Americans on the average eat 18 acres of pizza every day.
  • A company in Taiwan makes dinnerware out of wheat, so you can eat your plate.
  • The drive-through line on opening day at the McDonald’s restaurant in Kuwait City, Kuwait, was at times seven miles long.
  • The largest McDonald’s is in Beijing, China – measuring 28,000 square feet. It has twenty nine cash registers.
  • A toothpick is the object most often choked on by Americans.
  • 100% of all lottery winners gain weight.
