Index Finds Management Hiring Down

September 29, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index, which measures managerial recruitment activity across the U.S., found that the number of online job postings in September fell to 68.4, an 11.4-point loss compared to the August value of 79.8.

However, a press release said hiring is still 65% better than it was in April (41.4).

Hiring for C-Level jobs dropped dramatically, going from an Index value of 90 in August to 63 in September, according to the press release. VP-Level positions and Director-Level positions fared about the same, with a loss of 12 Index points in all. Managerial-level jobs showed the smallest decrease (9).

Job postings in some of the nation’s top metro areas showed growth this month. Baltimore, Dallas, San Francisco, and Milwaukee all showed increased hiring compared to August. Conversely, Miami, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh had the largest drops in hiring activity.

All regions of the country, except the West, experienced double-digit declines in managerial job-posting activity. The decline in the Western region compared to August was 9.2, but job listings in the West overall have dropped the most over the past year, from 93.3 to 64.5.
