IRS Form 990 Remake Prompts Education Campaign
An IRS announcement said the education materials include a new case study and a video aimed at helping exempt organization officials and their tax professionals properly complete the new form which requires more disclosure and transparency.
The announcement said the additional disclosures were intended to allow the tax agency and the public a more complete view of how the exempt entities operate – especially in terms of expenditures and executive salaries. The new form has to be filed for the 2008 tax year.
The hypothetical case study includes a set of facts describing organizational and financial aspects and a completed Form 990 based on those facts. According to the announcement, the video should answer basic questions about the new Form 990 as well as tax schedules that exempt filers may need to complete.
