Many Admin Professionals not Getting Recognition

April 21, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - More than one-quarter (27%) of senior managers interviewed by OfficeTeam said administrative professionals don't receive enough recognition on a regular basis.

In addition, 18% of respondents noted that their companies do not show appreciation to support staff during Administrative Professionals Week, which this year is April 24-30. Administrative Professionals Day is Wednesday, April 27.

However, 70% of managers said admin staff get just the right amount of recognition, and 2% indicated their support staff get too much recognition.

When asked how their companies celebrate Administrative Professionals Week, more than one-third (34%) of senior managers said their firms organize a celebration or lunch at work. One-quarter each said they offer a present such as flowers or a gift card (26%) and/or they praise admin staff during a staff meeting or other public forum (25%).

Fifteen percent said they provide a handwritten thank-you note, and 5% indicated they bring in an educational guest speaker.

The survey was conducted by an independent research firm that interviewed more than 1,000 senior managers at companies with 20 or more employees.
