MetLife Updates Caregiver Guide on Legal Matters

June 4, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The MetLife Mature Market Institute has updated its Since You Care guide entitled, Legal Matters.

According to a press release, Legal Matters contains a list of legal vehicles recommended for older people and explanations of each, a resource directory for accessing legal information (including books, publications and Internet sites), and a legal services checklist.

Topics found in the guide include:

  • Wills – setting up trusts for dependents, division of assets, charitable gifts, executors and tax considerations;
  • Managing Financial Affairs – establishing and choosing a Power of Attorney for financial and health care matters;
  • Use of Trusts – choosing a trustee and distinguishing the various types of trusts;
  • Managing Health Care Matters – writing a living will and/or medical Power of Attorney; and
  • Guardianship/Conservators – a person appointed by the court to decide the financial and/or personal matters for individuals who are unable to manage their own affairs.

The Since You Care publications draw from the experience of MetLife’s Care Coordinators who provide counseling and referral to MetLife’s long-term care insurance customers and their caregivers, the press release said.
