National Coalition on Benefits Set to Preserve ERISA Standards

November 6, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The American Benefits Council (ABC) has announced the launch of the National Coalition on Benefits, established to preserve the health and retirement benefit plan standards of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

The coalition is comprised of a diverse group of companies and employer associations who will work to increase awareness of ERISA’s role in providing uniform benefits to workers across state and local lines and promote legislative initiatives that preserve and protect this law. The ABC is a charter member of the coalition and will serve as co-chair of its legal and legislative subcommittee.

“The launch of this coalition comes at a key moment as the nation prepares to consider comprehensive health reform proposals,” said James A. Klein, ABC President, in the announcement. “The united voice of employers will help to ensure that ERISA continues to play an essential role in securing health and financial security for millions of American workers and their families.”
