NC Treasurer Sued over Pension Fund Records

The Associated Press reports the association wants the documents to determine whether political considerations play a role in how retirement money is handled, according to the lawsuit. Moore strongly denies the allegation.

In March 2007, after reading media reports that Moore received hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations from pension fund money managers’ employees or their relatives, the association sought detailed information about the outside fund managers. In October, it asked for records related to certain categories of investments made by the pension funds since 2001, the AP said.

Moore ‘s office says it fulfilled the March request by releasing hundreds of pages, but more time is needed to fulfill the October request. After Dana Cope, the association’s executive director, wrote letters last month detailing which documents had not been received and threatening the lawsuit, Moore’s office provided another 190 pages on January 18.

The $73 billion pension fund Moore manages covers more than 800,000 public employees and retirees.
