New CDHP 'Cares' for Workers

November 12, 2003 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Benefits managers looking for health-coverage alternatives may want to consider a new consumer-driven health plan (CDHP) unveiled by a Baltimore plan provider.

According to a news release, the Consumer Care plan by PERFORMAX includes both a health reimbursement account (HRA) as well as a high-deductible PPO. After participants deplete the HRA funds and meet their deductibles, the PPO kicks in to pay their medical expenses. The plan pays more for in-network physicians, specialists, hospitals, and other health care providers, the announcement said.

PERFORMAX clients can offer Consumer Care as a stand-alone plan or side by side with traditional health plans.

Consumer Care also offers educational tools and a variety of informational resources to help employees understand the health-care system and become knowledgeable health-care consumers.

The educational offering, PERFORMAX Consumer Care Advisor, provides plan participants with

  • online hospital quality and cost information
  • a 24-hour Nurse Line
  • an audio health information library
  • online claims status and account balance access
  • other self-service tools and health-care information.
