NH Governor Backs Civil Union Legislation
Other states that have passed civil union legislation include New Jersey , Connecticut and Vermont. Massachusetts led the way with approving gay marriage (See Massachusetts Court Says Gays Entitled to Marry).
According to the AP, Lynch had so far been reluctant to take a stand on civil unions, even though he has been open about supporting giving health benefits to same-sex couples.
”I believe it is a matter of conscience, fairness and preventing discrimination,” Lynch told The Associated Press.
The state Senate votes next week, and Lynch said he is confident the legislation will pass, according to the AP.
