NH Legislators OK Pension Changes

April 13, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The New Hampshire House of Representatives has approved retirement plan changes for police and firefighters.

The bill would raise the minimum retirement age from 45 to 50, and workers would need 25 years on the job instead of 20 before collecting benefits, according to the Boston Globe.

Fiscal conservatives are supporting the bill, according to the report, but police and fire unions say it would harm older members who can’t meet the physical demands of the work. The bill now goes to the Senate.
