Northern Trust Taps Stemme As Hedge Fund Director

Stemme, who will report to Northern Trust Global Advisors Chief Investment Officer Margaret Towle, will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and monitoring hedge fund managers as well as managing the research and portfolio management groups within the hedge fund team, according to a press release. Additionally, Stemme will participate in the asset allocation and portfolio construction process.

Previously, Stemme was Managing Director of the Alternative Investment Group at American Express Asset Management, where he was co-manager of six fund-of-funds products and oversaw due diligence on 60 active managers. Prior to that, he was with CIBC Oppenheimer in New York as Executive Director, Alternative Investment Group, where he created and managed a registered fund of funds in addition to performing due diligence for the firm’s hedge fund offerings. He began his career with Harris Associates, L.P., in Chicago, as a Research Associate.

Stemme holds an M.B.A. in finance from DePaul University and a B.A. from Cornell in mathematics. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder.
