Pension and Health Benefit Changes Approved in DE House
April 8, 2011 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – The Delaware House voted 37-3 approving a bill to increase state employees’ contributions for benefits.

The Associated Press reports that the legislation requires state employees hired on or after July 1, 2012, to contribute more toward pensions than current employees do and revises the pension calculation for those new hires.
State employees also would pay more for health care insurance starting in 2012. A free basic plan would be eliminated, and couples who currently receive free health care because both spouses work for the state would have to pay $25 a month.
According to the news report, officials estimate the changes could save $131 million over the first five years and $489 million over 15 years.
