Pre-Holiday Distractions Getting Less Bothersome

November 17, 2010 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – Thirty-four percent of senior managers in a recent poll said their employers are less productive during the week before a major holiday.

An Accountemps news release about its poll said that figure compares to 44% of executives who gave a similar answer in a poll five years ago.

According to the news release, 18% of the executives said their workers are much more or somewhat more productive during the pre-holiday week and 48% said they didn’t see a difference.

“Offices are often less productive during the holiday season than at other times of the year because of company parties, family festivities and other diversions,” said Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps, in the news release. “It can be challenging for employees to strike a balance between personal and work obligations.”

The survey was conducted by an independent research firm and is based on telephone interviews with more than 1,000 senior managers at companies with 20 or more employees.
