Principal Offers New Disability Programs

October 1, 2002 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Benefits managers interested in adding disability coverage to their company's packages may want to take a look at new products from The Principal Financial Group.

According to a company announcement, the Principal unwrapped new short-term and long-term disability products from its Principal Life Insurance Company unit.

The company said the offerings allow companies to customize the disability packages for their workers’ needs.

While standard features like residual definition of disability, work incentive benefit, and rehabilitation incentive benefit are offered with the new products, they also include additional benefit options such as activities of daily living benefit and spouse rehabilitation.

The announcement said many of the optional benefits focus on rehabilitation and return to work.

For employers who are looking for more affordable disability insurance, these new policies also offers optional value provisions including:

  • mandatory rehabilitation
  • gainful occupation
  • 40-hour work week
  • national economy definition of own occupation
  • special conditions limitation.

By using the online Principal Employee Benefits Service Center, Principal said benefits managers can add new members and make eligibility changes, view booklets and policies, access enrollment, billing and payment, and employee and employer change forms.

The online Principal Employee Benefits Service Center also enables employees to conveniently view their claim status, provider directories, booklets and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements.
