Segal Group Expands Health Benefits Practice

January 6, 2014 (PLANSPONSOR.com) – The Segal Group has acquired a portion of the business of Moroni Fantin, an employee benefits consulting firm located in the Detroit area.

Moroni Fantin specializes in working with mid-market, self-insured health plans based in Michigan and across the U.S.

According to an announcement from The Segal Group, the acquisition will complement the firm’s corporate and public sector health practices in the Midwest and nationally. The following Moroni Fantin employees will now be working with Segal’s Midwest Health Benefits Consulting Practice: Robert D. Moroni, Moroni Fantin’s founder and managing principal; Kimberly A. Wixson, principal; and Mary Dennis Jerome, analyst. The announcement also notes that Segal has acquired the clients these individuals work with, and that Moroni Fantin has ceased operations.

At Segal, Moroni will act as senior vice president and benefits consultant, Kim Wixson as vice president and health consultant, and Mary Dennis Jerome as an associate consultant. All three will be based in Detroit and take an active role in providing corporate health consulting services throughout the Midwest.

Moroni will report to John Gingell, senior vice president and Midwest regional leader. Wixson and Jerome will report to Moroni.

Moroni led Moroni Fantin’s work with major employers in the health care and human resources areas. Prior to Moroni Fantin, he was director of health care plans at General Motors Corporation. Moroni also served on the board of directors of The Leapfrog Group and the editorial board of the American Journal of Medical Quality. He is a certified public accountant with master’s degrees from both the University of Michigan and the University of Detroit.

Wixson has nearly 20 years of experience in underwriting and actuarial issues. Prior to Moroni Fantin, she was with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, where she worked with major national corporations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Wayne State University and a master’s in health care management from the University of Phoenix.

Jerome has nearly a decade of experience in the health insurance industry, as a client services analyst at Moroni Fantin and prior to that in new business sales for key and large group business at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. She holds a B.A. from Michigan State University, and an M.B.A. and M.S. in finance from Walsh College in Troy, Michigan.
