Survey: Employers Aware of Porn Viewing at Work

July 28, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Half of the companies surveyed say they have dealt with at least one instance of computer porn in the last year.

Corporations are cracking down on employees found looking at porn at work, with 41% of instances ending in disciplinary actions and 44% in firing, a recent survey found.

A survey by Atlanta-based Delta Consulting found that of the 50 Fortune 500 companies polled, at least half of them have dealt with at least one case related to computer porn in the workplace over the past year. The survey was based on the responses of 50 executives.

Half of the companies have dealt with at least one incident related to computer porn in the workplace over the past 12 months, according to a survey released on Tuesday.

Seventy-four percent of those polled said they were aware of the legal consequences of computer porn at work, but little more than half (54%) of executives would describe themselves as being aware that the first place attorneys look for evidence in such cases is a company’s computer records.

All of the companies Delta surveyed said they had a formal computer usage policy in place, with 74% saying the policy reaches beyond Internet and e-mail usage. Ninety percent have set in place procedures to deal with the finding of inappropriate computer images and 80% said they have technology in place to manage content on their computers.
