What's Your Sign?

August 22, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Astrology may be fertile fodder for pick-up lines at bars - "What's your sign?" - but it and birth order may also be good ways to help predict a person's profession and annual salary.

The results from a new CareerBuilder survey: A higher percentage of first born children pulled in $100,000 or more compared to their siblings while those with Scorpio, Leo, Taurus and Cancer signs were among the most likely to earn $100,000 or more. A CareerBuilder news release said survey results also showed the last born were the least likely to earn six figures.

Not only that, the survey discovered, but those with the Aquarius sign were more likely to be in sales or the military while Pisces people were more likely to gravitate to social work or personal care-related positions.

First-born children were more likely than their siblings to go into government, engineering, pharmacy, and science, while middle children gravitated to nursing, law enforcement, fire-fighting, and machine operation. Babies of the family likely had careers in art/design, sales, and information technology.

In addition, first-born children were more likely to report holding a vice president or senior management level position, while middle children were more likely to identify with professional/technical staff level positions, and the last born were more likely to report holding administrative/clerical level positions.

Middle children reported being the most satisfied with their current positions, while the last born reported being the least satisfied.
