Workers' Comp Firm Offers Injury Evaluation Product

August 3, 2005 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - WorkWell Systems, a workers' compensation services provider based in Aliso Viejo, California, has unveiled a new product for employers - CtdMAP Risk Profiling.

A company news release said that CtdMAP evaluates the likelihood of musculoskeletal injury over time by assessing the employee and the job and predicts the likelihood of future musculoskeletal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable events with 90% accuracy.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), also commonly called cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs), represent a substantial portion of workplace injuries/costs. “Regardless of company size, industry data shows us that musculoskeletal injury costs an average of $30,000 per incident,” said Kevin Schmidt, senior vice president, enterprise solutions, at WorkWell Systems, in the news release. “Prevention programs have demonstrated the best opportunity to reduce incidence, severity, and costs. This translates into value for our customers and their employees.”

The product’s output is based on a written questionnaire that collects employee information in health and activities to measure a person’s pre-disposition to MSD, the company said. The questionnaire is commonly completed online in 15 minutes or less and highlights the risk of CTD/MSD injuries to each employee so that employers can decide what is needed to prevent injuries.

The new product can work well with industries and jobs in which repetition and endurance are key aspects of the work, or for companies that have an aging workforce, the announcement said. Industries likely to benefit from CtdMAP include call centers, manufacturing/assembly, casino/gaming, banking and health care.
