Workers Surviving Layoffs Feel Added Pressure
According to a press release about CareerBuilder’s latest survey of more than 4,400 workers nationwide, 47% of workers reported they have taken on more responsibility because of layoffs within their organizations. Thirty-seven percent said they are handling the work of two people, and 30% reported feeling burned out.
To accommodate their increasing responsibilities, 34% of workers who kept their jobs after a layoff reported they are spending more time at the office, with 17% putting in at least 10 hours per day. Twenty-two percent are working more weekends.
“Employees are feeling added pressure as they shoulder heavier workloads and strive to maintain productivity levels. It’s critical that managers and employees work together to prioritize and set realistic expectations, so work demands feel attainable and less overwhelming,” said Rosemary Haefner, Vice President of Human Resources at CareerBuilder, in the announcement.
Recently, ComPsych, said it has seen a record number of calls for onsite counselors due to layoffs as well as requests for ongoing stress management counseling (see Poll Finds High Workplace Stress over Economy ).
