Actress Says She was Written off Show for Becoming Pregnant

January 13, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Former 'General Hospital' actress, Kari Wuhrer, is suing ABC-TV for pregnancy discrimination as well as other charges.

In the discrimination and wrongful termination suit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Wuhrer claims she suffered at least $3 million in damages from lost pay and career, and emotional distress, the Associated Press reports.

According to the AP, the suit accuses the defendants of sex discrimination, pregnancy-based discrimination, wrongful termination, failure to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnancy and other allegations.

The suit says Wuhrer notified the writers and producers in August that she was pregnant in order for them to write the pregnancy into the script. Instead, Wuhrer claims, she was fired two weeks later.

The suit claims that a female actor who “dares” to become pregnant has the choice to “terminate her pregnancy or be terminated.”
