Current Workers Best Source of Qualified Job Candidates

February 21, 2007 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Nearly three-quarters of managers say they look inside the company ranks before doing an outside search for job candidates, with most managers considering current workers as the best source of qualified talent, according to a recent survey.

The survey by the Hudson Employment Index also found that 40% of managers state internal promotions are the best way to fill an opening, followed by employee referrals and personal recommendations, 24% and 20%, respectively, according to a press release .

Also, those workers earning $75,000 or more per year are more likely to have landed their current job through a personal or professional contact. A third of managers have earned their position through networking; 39% of those making between $75,000 and $100,000; 36% of those earning more than $100,000 per year, compared to 28% of all workers.

In terms of how employees are seeking jobs, 14% say their resume is posted online and 25% say they have used a recruiter.
