Earnings Inch up in April
May 17, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Real average weekly
earnings rose by 0.2% after seasonal adjustment from March to
April 2006, according to preliminary data from the Department
of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

A BLS news release said a 0.5% increase in average hourly earnings combined with a 0.3% increase in average weekly hours was partially offset by a 0.6% increase in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W).
Average weekly earnings rose by 4.1%, seasonally adjusted, from April 2005 to April 2006, BLS data shows. After deflation by the CPI-W, average weekly earnings increased by 0.4%.
Before adjustment for seasonal changes and inflation, average weekly earnings were $565.45 in April 2006, compared with $537.94 in April 2005.
