EEOC Charges Bloomberg with Sexual Discrimination
According to the Associated Press, the suit against the news and financial services company was filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan. The complaint accuses Bloomberg of replacing some women with junior male employees, excluding them from management meetings and subjecting them to stereotypes about their ability to do work while they were child rearing.
The complaint was brought on behalf of three senior level employees and goes on to say that when women at the company went to human resources about the discrimination, their complaints were dismissed.
The EEOC said it filed its complaint only after it tried unsuccessfully to reach a voluntary settlement. The agency seeks unspecified damages and a change in policies at the company.
The EEOC says Bloomberg’s alleged discrimination practices occurred between February 2002 and the present.
According to the news report, Bloomberg intends to fight the allegations.
