FL IT Workers Looking for More than $$$

May 1, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Flex-time and telecommuting tied total compensation as deciding factors in accepting an IT job offer, according to a recent survey of South Florida IT professionals.

A news release from Ft. Lauderdale-based IT search and staffing specialist PROTECH about its survey of 544 IT workers in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties said work-life balance came in second as the most important consideration when weighing a job offer followed by stability and career growth. Some 23% listed flex-time and telecommuting as the best perks, edging out bonuses and paid expenses (each at 18%).

PROTECH said other survey highlights included:

  • IT workers reported an average salary increase of 12% over the previous year, and
  • 83% of respondents said they would leave their current employer for a better opportunity – a decrease of 4% from a year ago.

“Flex-time and telecommuting can definitely be deal-makers,” saidPROTECH CEO, Deborah Vazquez, in the news release. “In addition to saving at the pump and the dry cleaner, you gain more hours of productivity.”
