Hair Salon Franchiser Sued for Discrimination Against Hispanics

August 15, 2005 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed suit against more than 20 Chicago area Supercuts salon franchises alleging discrimination against Hispanic workers.

According to Business Insurance, the suit claims Primps LLC and Management Advantage Group, Inc., which operates the Supercuts salons, violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by requiring Hispanic employees to speak only English in the workplace.

The managers not only told employees they must speak English, but according to EEOC Chicago District Director John Rowe, “…they drove home that message in multisalon management meetings.”

BI reports that the EEOC filed the suit since a voluntary settlement could not be reached.
