Job Seekers May Have Better Luck for the Holidays

Half of hourly hiring managers with responsibility to hire seasonal workers will hire temporary workers, up three  points from last year and seven points from 2008, according to a press release. Each hiring manager, on average, expects to hire 3.9 seasonal workers (including those who do not intend to make any hires) – a 26% increase over last year’s 3.1 workers and stronger than 2008 levels (3.7).  

While this holiday season is predicted to be stronger than the last two years, holiday hiring isn’t all the way up to previous levels, but in another sign that businesses have more confidence about this holiday season than in the past two years, they are choosing to bring on additional help earlier. Among those who are planning to make any seasonal hires this year, 47% will start their hiring by September, up 11 points from last year and eight points from 2008, the press release said.
