MetLife Institutional Managers Play Musical Chairs

July 14, 2003 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - MetLife has instituted a round of managerial musical chairs in the company's Institutional Business leadership group in order to broaden the experience of the current manager lineup.

A news release announced a series of changes that were effective July 1:

  • Presley Surratt, currently senior vice president responsible for National Accounts,will assume responsibility for Retirement & Savings. MetLife Retirement & Savings delivers retirement programs, investment management solutions for defined contribution and defined benefit plans, and retirement income security products for individuals. Surratt joined MetLife in 1979 and became head of National Accounts in 1996.
  • Beth Hirschhorn,currently vice president and chief marketing officer (CMO) for Retirement & Savings, has been appointed CMO for all of Institutional Business. Hirschhorn, who joined MetLife in 2002, will take on responsibility for a new, integrated Institutional Business marketing function. Prior to joining MetLife, Hirschhorn was a senior vice president at JPMorganChase and Company, where she led consumer financial services marketing.
  • Craig Guiffre,currently vice president andchief marketing officer (CMO) for Institutional Group Insurance businesses , has been tapped to head MetLife’s National Accounts, which focuses on the company’s largest group customers, with more than 25,000 employees. MetLife serves 88 of the Fortune 100 companies, providing benefit plans and services to their employees. Guiffre joined MetLife in 1980.
  • Todd Katz,vice president and head of MetLife’s Institutional Dental product, will become head of MetLife’s Institutional Disability Products Group. Katz, who has served MetLife for the past 14 years, was most recently responsible for design, development, service and sales support, and profitability for all Dental products.
  • Michael Witwer,currently vice president and head of MetLife’s Group Life business, will become head of the Group Dental business. Witwer, who began his career at MetLife in 1981, most recently led the division that provides pricing, marketing and communications, new product development, service delivery and sales consulting and profitability for the entire portfolio of group life insurance products.
  • Maria Morris,vice president and head of MetLife’s Institutional Disability business, will now assume responsibility for the company’s Small Business Center, Individual Business Disability Income, Voluntary Benefits Sales and Group Regional Operations. Morris , an 18-year veteran of MetLife, was most recently responsible for design, development, service, sales support, and profitability for the Group Disability products.
