Russell Tops List of Fund Searches

September 15, 2000 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - Frank Russell was the consultant of choice among large plan sponsors last year.

The Tacoma, Washington-based investment management and advisory firm ranked number one in domestic and international equity searches, domestic and international fixed income searches and balanced account searches, according to Nelson Information’s annual Pension Fund Consultant Survey.

In view of those findings, it’s not surprising that Russell also topped all consultants in total assets under advisement, over $1.2 trillion.

Significantly, Russell has racked up those kind of stats with only 250 clients reporting to Nelson Information.

The survey, which only includes plan sponsors with more than $100 million in assets, also found the following:

  • William M. Mercer Investment Consulting is retained by more plan sponsors, corporations and hospitals than any other firm in the survey
  • Callan Associates advises to more than $860 billion in plan sponsor assets, more than any other consultant
  • Cambridge Associates ranked number one in advising to endowments and foundations.

The Pension Fund Consultant Survey is based on 4,436 plan sponsors with assets of $100 million or more.
