Shortage of Leaders on Deck Cited as Top Talent Challenge
An Authoria, Inc. press release on the study said “gaps in the leadership pipeline” was identified by 51% of respondents as a top talent challenge for their organizations. Surprisingly, in light of the baby boomer retirement era, only 23% of survey respondents chose “pending retirement of key workers” as a talent challenge.
“Leadership development” was identified as the talent-management process most in need of improvement, as well as the function that best defines talent management (80.6%). “What clearly emerges from this study is that organizations are realizing the urgency of treating talent as a corporate asset, and managers are beginning to act on it,” said Josh Bersin, President of Bersin & Associates, in the release.
The research study, High-Impact Talent Management, is based on a survey of 700 organizations and interviews with 60 HR executives and provides a detailed look at HR best practices, HR systems, business outcomes, organizational models, and workforce issues. Full results of the survey will be released in May, but an executive summary of results can be obtained by attending a free Webcast on March 28.
