Towers Perrin Adds Pension Risk Management Consultant in Europe

April 7, 2009 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - In an effort to expand its global pension risk management offerings and capabilities, Towers Perrin has appointed Jason Smith as a senior consultant for pension risk management.

Smith will be based in London and is charged with building and expanding the firm’s Liability-Driven Investment (LDI) structuring and implementation services for defined benefit pension plan sponsors, according to a press release. He will also contribute to similar development efforts in the United States.

Prior to joining Towers Perrin, Smith was director, fund manager and investment officer, global fixed income, for BlackRock. Among his duties was managing derivative overlay funds and implementing LDI strategies, the announcement said. Previously, he was a client portfolio manager at JPMorgan – focusing on the delivery of fixed income solutions, asset allocation strategies and other related services – and a senior consultant with IBM’s European pension funds practice.

“Jason brings to Towers Perrin – and our clients – a tremendous amount of capital market experience and expertise, particularly in the design and application of LDI solutions,” said Sylvia Pozezanac, Towers Perrin Principal and the firm’s Retirement Risk Solutions global practice leader, in the announcement. “He is a welcome addition to our team of talented pension risk management specialists. We are excited about the value he can bring to pension plan sponsors looking to better manage their inflation and capital market-related risks.”
