Weekly Earnings Inch Up Slightly in November

weekly earnings rose by 0.2% in November, according to
preliminary data from the Department of Labor's Bureau of
Labor Statistics (BLS).

A BLS news release said the slight increase stems from the 0.2% increase in average hourly earnings combined with a 0.1% decrease in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W).
Average weekly earnings climbed 4.4% from November 2005 to November 2006, after seasonal adjustments. After deflation by the CPI-W, average weekly earnings increased by 2.6%, according to the news release.
Average weekly earnings were $572.91 in November 2006, compared with $550.94 a year earlier, before adjustment for seasonal change and inflation.
