Worker Worry Does not Include Job Loss
However, despite the economic situation and recent increases in the unemployment rate, job loss does not seem to be a top concern. Only a small number of workers (25%) claim to currently be saving for unemployment, and the majority (58%) having no intention to start putting money aside for potential job loss, Adecco said in a press release.
The number one concern of respondents is high gas prices (25%), beating out a stagnant paycheck (13%), and work-life balance (12%), which were tied for the top spot in Adecco’s 2007 Labor Day survey. The rising cost of health care (9%) and the job market (7%) rounded out the top five job-related concerns.
According to the announcement, while the vast majority of Americans continue to feel appreciated at work (75%), the number has significantly dropped from 2007 when 91% of those polled said they felt they were very/somewhat and appreciated at the office.
